If you don't want to do anything but unpack speakers, consider buying complete speaker systems from reputable custom speaker builders such as:
Fully built systems from around $2,500 to $5,000 are typical and will beat most speakers at $20,000 in a store.
If you want to learn more about building speakers yourself, please start by visiting these sites:
- DIY Multi-way speaker forums.
- Parts Express Project Gallery
- Madisound kits
- Zaph's ageing pages on parts and kits
- Troels Gravesen's incredibly detailed kits and discussions, designs are not free, but kits are very reasonably priced.
- Meniscus Audio a messy site with tons of kits including some from Jeff Bagby.
- Parts Connexion for boutique crossover parts
- Solen Great when the Loony is weak and US Dollar is strong, and have some unique kits
- AudioHobby European site, again, great to buy from when the dollar is strong.
- SonicCraft - Small selection, but great discounts on high end caps
Of course, I'm quite proud of the free DIY kits I have published on this blog, you can start by looking at the LM-1 posted here as well as my review of other kits here.
